Overview
Ireland is the only English-speaking country left in the European Union, and every major technology and pharmaceutical employer in Europe runs its EMEA operation from Dublin, Cork or Galway. That concentration shows in graduate outcomes for computing, data analytics, medical devices and financial services. The trade-off is accommodation: Dublin rents are among the highest in Europe and student housing must be arranged early, often before the visa decision arrives.
Why students choose Ireland
Degrees are recognised across the EU, the Third Level Graduate Programme allows two years of stay-back after a master's, and multinational employers recruit directly from Irish campuses. Class sizes are small by international standards.
How the education system works
Honours bachelor degrees run three or four years, taught master's degrees one to two, and research master's and doctorates two to four. Qualifications sit on the National Framework of Qualifications, which maps directly onto the European framework.

Taught master's degrees run EUR 12,000 to 25,000 for the programme. Undergraduate degrees run EUR 10,000 to 25,000 a year, with medicine well above that.

What living there costs
Immigration Service Delivery expects evidence of EUR 10,000 for the first year. Realistic spending in Dublin is EUR 12,000 to 15,000, and meaningfully less in Limerick, Galway or Cork.
Scholarships and funding
The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship pays a EUR 10,000 stipend plus a full fee waiver for one year. Individual universities offer international merit awards typically worth EUR 2,000 to 6,000.
The student visa
A Study Visa (Stamp 2) requires an unconditional letter of acceptance, proof that tuition has been paid, private medical insurance and evidence of EUR 10,000 in accessible funds. Applications are lodged online through AVATS and supported by documents delivered to the visa office.
Working while you study
Stamp 2 permits 20 hours of work a week during term and 40 hours during the June to September and mid-December to mid-January windows.
Staying on after you graduate
The Third Level Graduate Programme gives 24 months on Stamp 1G after a master's. Moving to a Critical Skills Employment Permit gives an accelerated two-year route to long-term residency, and five years of legal residence allows a citizenship application.
